Diego Aguilar Ramirez
MD, MSc, DPhil
Intermediate Research Fellow
Diego is an intermediate research fellow based in the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU). He works in the Mexico City Prospective Study (MCPS).
Diego studied medicine at Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City where, after graduating in 2015, he worked as a junior researcher and lecturer until 2017. Following this, he obtained an MSc in Global Health Science and a DPhil in Population Health from Oxford Population Health.
Since completing his DPhil in 2021, Diego has been a research fellow at CTSU. Based on MCPS data, his research uses observational and genetic epidemiology methods to investigate the determinants of cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases - and their impact to health - in the Mexican population. Besides research, he leads MCPS research capacity-building efforts in Mexico in collaboration with Mexico-based researchers.
Diego is a tutor for the Principles of Epidemiology module in the MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology, and for the Public Health thread in the standard undergraduate Medical School course. He also supervises postgraduate research students in Oxford and in Mexico.
