Oxford Global Health was delighted to host Her Excellency Mrs Sabah Zita Benson, the newly appointed High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to the United Kingdom and Ireland, during her visit to Oxford on 13 November 2025. The High Commissioner was accompanied by a delegation for a day of engagement and cultural exchange.
The visit centred on discussions around efforts towards malaria elimination, health priorities, and opportunities to deepen collaboration with Oxford Global Health. It formed part of wider efforts to strengthen engagement with African partners and explore areas for joint work in support of national efforts towards greater health sovereignty.
Throughout the day, the delegation met Ghanaian students and researchers, connected with colleagues across global health and Africa-focused programmes, and engaged with the leadership of the nascent Oxford Ghana Society. A meeting with the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) explored opportunities for academic exchange and future collaborative research. The visit concluded with time spent with members of Oxford’s Ghanaian community, including a piano performance by Dr Samuel Boateng, St John’s College, that offered a moment of shared cultural connection.
The High Commissioner and her delegation expressed appreciation for Oxford’s commitment to strengthening relationships with Ghana and highlighted their enthusiasm for meaningful, long-term collaboration.
