Caterina Fanello
Research Director
Dr Fanello is the Research Director of the Kinshasa Research Medical Unit, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a collaboration between MORU and the Kinshasa School of Public Health, University of Kinshasa.
She is an established epidemiologist and malaria expert, with a strong technical knowledge of malaria control strategies and extensive experience in the organization and management of research groups. Her work aims at reducing global health inequalities, with a focus on disease prevention, control and elimination. She has long-term experience in designing and implementing epidemiological/clinical studies and public health interventions in LMICs as well as a strong expertise in managing and evaluating projects/programs at country level, including Challenging Operating Environments. Her research provides results to support evidence-based, cost-effective public health interventions and strategies for malaria prevention, control and elimination.
She works on Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health and the main core of her research, focuses on malaria diagnosis and treatment and the development and evaluation of malaria control policies. Her interests also include the ethical aspects of research in vulnerable populations and migrant’s health.
Prior to joining MORU, Caterina worked for many years at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. During this time, she worked in several Africa countries and in Venezuela on a series of projects and clinical trials that focused on malaria diagnosis, treatment and disease control.
