Mediation of the effect of malaria in pregnancy on stillbirth and neonatal death in an area of low transmission
Mcgready R.
Type of data: Routinely collected antenatal clinic data Data source: Shoklo Malaria Research Unit, Mae Sot, Tak, Thailand. Setting: Antenatal clinics in refugee and migrant communities on the Thailand-Myanmar border, where malaria is endemic and transmission is low. Time period of data collection: 1986 - 2015 Primary research question: What is the association between malaria in pregnancy and stillbirth in an area of low malaria transmission? Description of primary exposure variable: Malaria in pregnancy (vivax or falciparum). Women were screened for malaria weekly throughout pregnancy (finger-prick blood samples examined by a trained microscopist). Malaria was defined as the presence of asexual parasites in the peripheral blood (per 500 leukocytes or 1000 erythrocytes). Description of primary outcome variable: Stillbirth (a baby born dead from 28 weeks’ gestation), further classified as antepartum (death in utero) or intrapartum (death during labour). This data set was created in STATA. Worldwide Antimalarial Resistance Network: http://www.wwarn.org/
