Zachary Abel
DPhil Student
Zac began his DPhil in Population Health in October 2022. He is working with the Candour Study to evaluate inequalities in access to health care services around the world, with particular attention to cross-country differences and novel methodologies of measuring socioeconomic status in the healthcare context.
Prior to starting his DPhil, Zac completed his MSc in Economics for Development at the University of Oxford, and Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Statistics at the University of Cape Town. Zac then worked as a management consultant in South Africa for a time, working across the continent in a variety of fields.
During his time as a consultant, Zac worked in several public health projects, encompassing regulation, improving access to medications and immunisation strategies. In 2021, Zac was elected as a Rhodes Scholar, enabling him to return to academics to further his education.
