The following Horizon Europe/EDCTP3 calls are focused on sub-Saharan Africa. 

A. Research & Innovation Actions (RIA)

The 2026 Global Health EDCTP3 calls will support four RIA topics focused on tuberculosis, lower respiratory tract infections, HIV and climate-change-driven infectious diseases. 

  1. HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-01-HIV-03-two-stage: Global collaboration action towards better prevention, treatment and clinical management of HIV co-infections or co-morbidities in sub-Saharan Africa 

  2. HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-01-LRTI-02-two-stage: Global collaboration action for prevention and treatment of Lower Respiratory Tract Infections in sub-Saharan Africa.  

  3. HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-01-TB-01-two-stage: Global collaboration action for the development of TB drugs for therapy and chemoprophylaxis in adults and children in sub-Saharan Africa.  

  4. HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-02-CH-01-two-stage: Global collaboration action on climate and health in sub-Saharan Africa. 

Amount and Deadline

Funding: €5 million – €10 million per project 
Deadline: 4 March 2026 (first stage) 
Calls are expected to open by mid-January 2026

B. Coordination and support action (CSA) calls

Two CSA calls will support training and capacity development in sub-Saharan Africa:

  1. HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-03-SERP-01: Training and innovation networks for sustained capacity development related to ethics, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and related digital regulatory platforms.  

  2. HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-03-DIGIT-02: Enhancing integrated research and healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa through digital innovation and Artificial Intelligence.  

Amount and deadline

Funding: €1.5 million – €2.25 million per project 

Deadline: 31 August 2026 (later deadline; single-stage call, forecast)

Country of applicant institution: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, European Union (EU), Faroe Islands, Georgia, Republic of, Iceland, Israel, Kosovo, Moldova, Republic of, Montenegro, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom.
