The paper describes a new procedure for designing linear adaptive arrays with a controllable broad band capability. The new procedure allows acceptable array performance to be achieved without the need for broadband presteering delays. The approach relies on the use of a special array weight vector constraint involving vertical w vertical . Convergent algorithms for solving the new broadband procedure are devised and their performance studies. The convergence aspects of the algorithm for adaptive array systems are discussed.
